Hello
world. My name is Conor Mongan and I'm a graphic designer.
So, since I've got your attention,
let me be vain and self-centered for a second and give you
a little background information on who am I, and why you might
want me to help you out with any design-related problem solving.
I learned the craft of design from
my mother, Maurene, at a young age, and I became a working designer
at the age of 15 (child labor laws anyone, hello?) with
clients such as Equifax and Zoobooks.
After high school, I attended San
Diego State University and applied to work at the student newspaper,
the Daily Aztec, where I quickly rose in the ranks and became
Art Director. Eventually, they gave me my own made-up title —
Graphics Specialist — and a pay raise along with it just
so I wouldn't leave. I guess they liked me.
Eventually, I did have to leave,
because the riches of the Internet Boom were a callin'. I mean,
it was a modern day Gold Rush, right? Well, by the time
I got up to San Francisco, the Boom was going bust, however it
was at my job at Snowball where
I developed my design style, thanks to some great mentors.
After Snowball and a little freelance
time, I landed at my childhood dream
job, designing baseball cards at Upper Deck. During my tenure
at UD (as the kids call it), I was a well-respected
senior designer who was known for an ever-evolving style and
the ability to think outside of traditional card design themes.
My work won awards in trade publications and two of my card designs
were used as inspiration for covers of Beckett Magazine, a well-known
card pricing guide.
So, that leads me to where I am
today.
I've broken free of the confines
of the cubicle and am back in the world of freelance. I enjoy
working on a variety of projects in different genres, and freelance
allows me to do just that.
If you have a project in need of
a visual makeover, contact
me and let's get to work.
